Waiting for the Peeper (audio)

On the way out, winter drags its feet. It dawdles over coffee, cracks its knuckles, and checks the addition.

While I was working, the world has changed around me. Newspapers have faded, magazines are on life support, and collections of essays go begging. I have been lucky to live and write about a place where time passes…differently. My essays on Nantucket draw hundreds, and even thousands of readers, but they have also drawn many listeners.

This recording, and the ones that will follow, are audio presentations of my essays. I will still publish the essays in a print form, but I will also use this Podcast feed to publish the spoken version of the essays. Right now, I am thinking of publishing two or three spoken essays a week, one or two new ones and one old one.

If you enjoy listening, please like, restack, and comment. If you feel particularly moved, you can subscribe for free or you can send me some money. Feedback, on substack, comes rarely, but I enjoy having comments, even if they take me to task for grammar or pronoun reference errors.
